My hope is that you will participate with comments and questions in the designated area below. NIMH  facts and resources are at the end.

Autism is prevalent today thus society has more awareness of the condition but not it's impact on everyone touched by the disorder. Scientists are searching for genetic, environmental, and societal factors to support interventions and education for this non discriminating far reaching spectrum.

At MRC, we are strength based, child centered and family focused. Our responsibility is to build relationships by meeting a client where they are developmentally and to progress into areas of higher skills and expectations.

Dance/Movement Therapy is the use of movement to assess, diagnose and treat individuals that display a few or many symptoms and challenges of functioning in a world that is unpredictable, overloaded with sensory stimulation and expectations that are difficult for all of us. Please read on to get more educated so you can help yourself or people you know. We are committed to finding the Power Within to make a difference in the world.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), a guide created by the American Psychiatric Association used to diagnose mental disorders, people with ASD have:
  • Difficulty with communication and interaction with other people
  • Restricted interests and repetitive behaviors
  • Symptoms that hurt the person’s ability to function properly in school, work, and other areas of life
Autism is known as a “spectrum” disorder because there is wide variation in the type and severity of symptoms people experience. ASD occurs in all ethnic, racial, and economic groups. Although ASD can be a lifelong disorder, treatments and services can improve a person’s symptoms and ability to function. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all children be screened for autism. All caregivers should talk to their doctor about ASD screening or evaluation.
